Pitasoni Ulavalu, the Canberra leader of the Comancheros bikie gang, has died and others have been left with serious injuries after a wild brawl outside a CBD nightclub in the early hours of this morning turned fatal.

It is understood the fight broke out around 12:05am between a number of people, outside the Kokomo’s nightclub in Canberra’s CBD.

Ulavalu, 48, was stabbed and died outside the venue, according to reports from the ABC.

“We’re treating this as a suspicious death and we’re treating this very seriously,” ACT Policing Acting Chief, Mick Calatzis, said.

Witnesses told The Canberra Times there was screaming, shouting and punches thrown – though it’s not yet known whether weapons were involved.

One woman described it as a “mad scene” and said she saw a body lying immobile on the ground for a lengthy period before paramedics arrived.

Police said a second man was injured and treated at the scene by paramedics before being taken to hospital.

Around 35 police arrived at the scene, on the corner of Genge and Bunda Streets, and erected temporary banners to preserve the remaining evidence.

AFP Crime Scene Forensics were also called to take photographs and collect samples.

In a statement issued earlier this morning, police said they “responded to a disturbance outside a licensed premises” which involved “a number of people”.

Police have called on anyone who was at the bar - which reopened less than a month ago after closing due to the COVID-19 lockdown - at the time to come forward, and believe some patrons recorded the altercation on their phones.

It’s the second pub fight in as many weeks that’s turned fatal, after a man was killed in a fight at Canberra’s Kingston Hotel on July 6.
